Crane Cottage Wedding Photography on Jekyll Island

Crane Cottage is one of the most distinctive wedding venues at the Jekyll Island Club Resort in Jekyll Island, Georgia. Built in the Italian Renaissance style, the historic cottage is surrounded by gardens, mature trees, and beautifully preserved architectural details that give a wedding weekend a strong sense of place. From the sunken garden and reflecting pool to the courtyard and interiors of the cottage itself, the property offers an unusually varied setting for wedding photography.

For us, one of the most compelling things about photographing a Crane Cottage wedding is the way the property changes throughout the day. Soft morning light moves across the gardens and architecture, while the shaded courtyards and covered walkways offer beautiful places for portraits in the middle of the day. As the sun begins to lower, the surrounding landscape takes on the warm, quiet quality that makes Jekyll Island such a beautiful place to photograph.

Getting Married at Crane Cottage

A wedding at Crane Cottage can feel more like a destination wedding weekend than a single event. The cottage includes thirteen guest rooms and historic gathering spaces, allowing family and friends to stay together on the property and experience Jekyll Island as part of the celebration. The cottage’s living room, library, dining room, courtyard, gardens, and surrounding grounds create natural transitions throughout a wedding day, from getting ready and portraits through dinner and dancing.

The setting also makes it possible to incorporate the character of Jekyll Island into the photographs rather than keeping the entire wedding contained to one room. The historic architecture, live oaks, gardens, and coastal landscape all become part of the visual story.

A Jekyll Island Wedding Photographer’s Perspective

Crane Cottage is particularly well suited to the way we approach wedding photography. We love photographing places with a strong sense of history and atmosphere, but we don’t want the photographs to feel like a collection of venue portraits. The architecture and landscape provide the setting; the people and the relationships are what make the photographs meaningful.

Our approach combines film and digital photography, with an emphasis on honest moments, natural movement, thoughtful portraits, and the small interactions that make a wedding weekend feel personal. We want couples to have beautiful photographs of the setting, but also photographs that bring them back to how the weekend actually felt.

This Crane Cottage wedding on Jekyll Island is a good example of that balance — a beautiful historic setting, thoughtfully considered details, and plenty of room for the people themselves to remain at the center of the story.
